Start Now!
Self-care can be hard to do for yourself at times. I have 5 self-care tips you can start now. I know for myself, it’s easier to care for others than myself. On the flip side, if I don’t care for myself, I cant care for others. Sometimes self-care can be expensive so we rather not bother but believe it or not there are so many things you can do yourself that will not cost you a dime.
These last two months have been so overwhelming and it has really shown me that I need to care for myself more. I have been feeling drained, eating more, and overall not feeling myself.
Recently I have been doing more than normal, helping others more than normal which is ok but I wasn’t taking care of myself. I found myself suffering from anxiety, worried if I was going to get all my to-do-list done and what others would think of me. I had to just let go and step back because I found myself going down fast.
So in saying all of that, I had to think of something. I came up with 5 self-care tips that I could start right now and so can you.
5 Self-Care Tips
1. Make time for yourself
Making time for yourself can be hard especially if you have young children, a full-time job, and any other responsibilities. If you can take a nice bath with a glass of wine, getting a massage (when the world opens back up). You can even journal & exercise, I will explain more of that in my 5th tip.
2. Minimize your responsibilities
If it’s not super important, let it go. I found myself doing things for others and adding them to my to-list and made it a responsibility of mine. I had to stop. I found myself tired of doing so much and not caring for myself. if you can help it only do what you really need to do and learn how to say no. I had a hard time saying no but I say no now.
3. Pamper yourself
if you have some extra funds, go get a manicure & pedicure, if your into makeup go buy your a new lipstick, or treat yourself to a new pair of shoes. sometimes the smallest things can bring you so much joy and provide the right amount of self-care we all may need at that moment.
4. Exercise
Believe it or not, exercise works wonders on the body. Now I will the first to say I dislike working out but I know it’s needed. doing 15-30 minutes of cardio a few times a week will not only get your heart going but you will start to sleep better, feel better, and eventually do more if you can handle it.
5. Therapy
This is the BEST of them all. I recently started seeing a therapist and I must say that has been the best thing I did in 2020. I have started doing all of these with the help of my therapist. I must say I feel good but I could feel better. I found that since I started journaling I’m getting so many things out of my head and on paper. This allows me not to carry so much around.
Take Care For Yourself
I know some folks think talking to a therapist, you may seem crazy but I’m here to tell you I’m so happy I decided to see a therapist because I wanted to discuss one area of my life my but I was able to address so many other areas that I had buried.
I would love to know in the comments if you need more self-care in your life or if you ever thought about seeing a therapist?
