Feeling too old to go back to school
Getting my Masters Degree was a personal accomplishment for me. I currently have a solid career in finance, so I didn’t need another degree to advance (but it wouldn’t hurt when it comes down to the pay increase). I remember when I completed my Bachelors Degree. I was pregnant with my youngest daughter. I remember being so tired and not wanting to finish but I did.
When I decided to pursue my Masters Degree I was pumped because at this point I had the learning bug in me. That feeling went away fast because I was excited and nervous about moving to North Carolina. As the years past, I felt I was getting too old and I didn’t have it in me to complete another degree.
So I decided to complete my Masters Degree online. Completing my degree online gave me the comfort zone I needed because your girl didn’t want to sit in a classroom as I did for my Bachelors Degree.
What helped me complete my Masters Degree?
This may seem silly but my Daughters and my Mother helped me complete my degree. I have two daughters and only my oldest has seen me walk across the stage to receive my first degree but my youngest has not. So I want my youngest to see me receive my Masters. I want my daughters to know the sky is the limit and you can do whatever you want, just as long as you put in the work.
I know I’m a super mom to my girls but they have no idea how much they hold me up. This goes back to me feeling too old to do something and or completing my Masters. YOU ARE NEVER TO OLD! In addition, my mother/my ROCK! She was so excited when I told her I was going to complete my Masters. She was and has been an amazing support system for me in so many areas in my life. My mother gets to see me one more time to walk across the stage. #MYFAMILY
I got my Masters Degree, now WHAT!
As I mentioned earlier, completing my Masters Degree was a personal accomplishment and for my daughters. Yes, I will use it and advance in my finance career but I can’t wait to see the smile on my daughters and mother face. I know I have made them proud.
In saying, all of that. Never feel you are too old to do anything in life. Have a good support system of people who truly want you to win. block out all the negativity and focus.
