Why Black Women Over 40 Need to Rest Without Guilt.

For so many Black Women over 40, rest can feel uncomfortable.

We have spent years working, caring for others, handling responsibilities, solving problems, and being the person everyone can depend on. Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to believe that slowing down meant we were being lazy, unproductive, or even selfish.

But rest is not quitting

Sometimes, rest is exactly what we need to keep going.

When we constantly push ourselves without time to recharge, burnout can feel normal. We may become exhausted, overwhelmed, irritable, or disconnected from the things that once brought us joy. Before we know it, we’re surviving instead of truly living.

As we get older, I believe we have to become more intentional about listening to our bodies and protecting our peace.

Rest can look different for everyone. It may mean taking a nap without feeling guilty, spending a quiet evening at home, saying no to something you do not have energy for, taking a break from social media, or simply sitting still for a few minutes without feeling like you need to accomplish something.

Rest is not weakness.

Rest is not giving up.

Rest is choosing to live well.

There is wisdom in knowing when you need to pause. There is strength in recognizing that you can not pour from an empty cup. And there is self-respect in permitting yourself to recharge before you completely burn out.

So if you have been feeling tired lately, maybe you do not need to push harder.

Maybe you simply need rest.

And you do not have to feel guilty about choosing it.
